Kymberg Consulting and Technologies is a trusted advisor for the national security-focused research and development (R&D) community. Consultants at Kymberg advise and manage ambitious R&D projects for agencies such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

Heimdall Program

PROJECT GOAL

The Heimdall program will develop software that, combined with existing hardware on US Navy ships, will automate targeting on approaching vessels. Learn more

Kymberg provides project management and technical support to ensure the Heimdall project objectives set by DARPA are met. This includes evaluating optical tracking such as the Mk-160 Gun Computer System or the Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS).

Kymberg also ensures that test and demonstration events are executed efficiently, producing reliable results for DARPA leadership and transition partners in the Department of Defense (DoD).

Pulling Guard

PROJECT GOAL

Pulling Guard will develop an unmanned system tethered and flying above a cargo vessel to monitor for incoming threats. If detected, a US service member monitoring multiple Pulling Guards over a secure connection will evaluate the risk and if appropriate, make the tactical decision to neutralize the threat. As part of the Pulling Guard government team, Kymberg provides technical expertise on autonomous target tracking and identification systems as well as operational and research efforts employing tethered airborne sensors.

Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI)

PROJECT GOAL

QBI will determine if developing an industrially-viable quantum computer – a computer with computational value greater than the cost – is attainable in by 2033. Learn more

Kymberg provides system engineering and technical assistance (SETA) for QBI. Kymberg is primarily tasked with managing the talent provided by more than a dozen national laboratories supporting the QBI objective.

OFFensive Swarm-Enabled Tactics (OFFSET)

PROJECT GOAL

The OFFSET program developed and tested swarming autonomy tactics to enable large groups of aerial and/or ground autonomous vehicles to provide real-time situational awareness to inform small ground military unit operations in dense and complex urban landscapes. Learn more

KYMBERG VALUE

Test engineers at Kymberg were essential to the execution of DARPA’s OFFSET program, managing the field testing of two system integrators and numerous capability developers (sprinters) at six sites.

These efforts produced capstone demonstration events at Project Convergence and the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) where the development teams stepped back and soldiers took the role of swarm commanders, employing hundreds of ground and air agents in the execution of their tactical objectives.

Kymberg remains connected to swarming technology development and OFFSET program transition across the DoD.

Aerial Dragnet

PROJECT GOAL

Dragnet developed networks of sensors to continuously monitor, identify and map low and slow flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in urban areas where myriad objects can hamper clear line of sight. Learn more

KYMBERG VALUE

Kymberg test engineers led the testing and project management of the Aerial Dragnet program throughout its development phases and final testing at five urban test sites including Arlington, Baltimore and San Diego. 

Kymberg coordinated with state and local law enforcement in all localities to secure clearance to fly small unmanned aerial vehicles in the complicated, dense terrain. These target UAVs served as test assets for the diverse net of low cost sensors developed in the program.

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)

Automated Air Refueling

PROJECT GOAL

The Automated Air Refueling program developed vendor-agnostic technology to support an automated refueling boom by an uncrewed aircraft. Learn more

Kymberg supported the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) under its agreement with University of Dayton Research Institute. Kymberg advised AFRL on their adoption of autonomy software solutions designed to optimize the dynamic mission needs of aerial refueling and related battle management capabilities.
